Buying Properties in Other States

Hello Bigger Pockets Community!

I stumbled upon Bigger Pockets a month ago and have been loving the wealth of information from the podcasts and forums.

I am making my leap into the real estate and wanted to see what the community here has to say about my situation.

I currently live in Fort Collins, CO and I am looking to purchase some rental properties in my home state of Wisconsin. My motivation to purchase properties there is to be able to find housing for my parents who are disabled and live off of limited government assistance. I feel like as their oldest son its my job to help them if I have the means to. I have been fortunate enough to have a stable well paying job for the 6 years and have been able to save up a good amount of capitol to fund the initial down payment on a multi-family rental property. The plan is to have the parents live in one of those units. With this being said, does anyone have any advise on owning properties in states other than the one you reside in?

I appreciate your responses.

Thank you!
