Should landlord have a copy of the key in NYS

Hi everyone, this is something I would like some input on ASAP. The tenant  wants to to change the locks on the apartment but does not feel safe nor conformable giving me the keys to her apartment. When we signed the lease this did not seem like a problem to me, but 24 hours laters I noticed the mistake. I informed her I would only require entry for emergencies but she does not feel comfortable with this, and has asked to consider the lease null and void if I choose to pursuit this route. I completely understand her point of view I've done some research on Landlord Tenant Laws in regards to this, but would like to hear some input from any experienced landlords.
