Unauthorized occupants -- vandalism and trespassing? Lockout?

Hello--I am an out of state owner with a triplex in Rhode Island. My property manager learned this morning that one of the units is full of unauthorized occupants (no one in there has a lease). He went in the apartment today because one of the tenants in another unit saw through the window that there was a large amount of graffiti and other damage to the unit with the unauthorized occupants. The property manager got a police report today and is going to speak with a detective this afternoon. I would appreciate any advice about how I should proceed. I am very concerned about additional damage these strangers may cause. I am waiting for an update from the property manager but have been reading about potential ways to handle this. Should I take steps to have a prosecutor file criminal charges of trespassing and vandalism? Should I try to get a sheriff's lockout immediately? Since these are unauthorized occupants and not tenants, am I allowed to change the locks immediately? I am seeking legal advice but would appreciate any thoughts. Thank you very much.

Your next conversation with your PM should be:

"Thank you so much for letting me know, this is unreal, let me know when you have it all handled".
