Tenant Let House Go - Mice Invaded

Okay, a bit of a back story here. I have an issue in which I'm renting a house to 4 people on 3 separate leases. 3 of the people were on deployment for the past 7 months while the other is wife to one of the guys. She has had the house to herself and really let it go. The day they got back from deployment her husband came up to me and said they have a major mice problem and their upstairs master bedroom is unlivable. Apparently his wife has been living downstairs for some time. When he showed me the bedroom it was absolutely filthy. It's no wonder they have a problem. So I call the pest control company and they come out to inspect. Once they see the bedroom they advise to just get the place cleaned up and set traps. That should solve the problem easy day. The only issue is now the wife has decided to leave her husband and move out, leaving him to deal with cleaning her mess. He is slowly getting it handled but has a lot of other things going on since he just got back from deployment and is going through divorce. So needless to say the house isn't getting cleaned up as fast as I'd like.

My question (finally) is should I try to just push him along hoping he will get it cleaned quicker or try to help by hiring someone to come in and clean. If so, who would I hire, a maid? It's a lot of their stuff so it's not like anyone can really come through and say what's garbage and what should be kept, other than the tenant. I just really want to get this handled fast for the sake of his roommates, and obviously the house.

Thank you all for the quick advice on this time-sensitive issue.

I see a few issues here. The first issue is that you were not doing rental inspections. You should have caught this before it became a major issue.

The second issue is that you didn't move to evict immediately when you saw your place was trashed. I don't care if he wasn't the one who did it, it is his responsibility since he is on the lease.

You are letting the tenants walk all over you and allowing a sob story to get in the way of making good business decisions.
