Evicting tenant in Oakland
I have a property in Oakland that I do not live in, but it's currently occupied by two members of my step-family since 5-6 years ago. My father passed away and they had financial difficulties so during their whole time they lived there I didn't charge them rent or put a lease in place. Now they have jobs and income, I thought it was time to ask for rent and they only offered to pay $500 a month for a two bedroom cottage. At this point, I just want to ask them to leave, but I'm unsure if I will even be able to with the strict tenant protection laws in Oakland. I will appreciate any kind of advice !! Thank you in advance.

If it's a single family home, then it is most likely exempt from rent control and just cause evictions.
Your best bet is to pay an attorney who specializes in Oakland evictions a few hundred dollars for an hour of their time, and strategize the best way to get them out.
It could be as simple as providing a 60 day notice to vacate.
NOT legal advice. I highly recommend you work with a local attorney. Pay for an hour of their time, to ensure you do this legally and correctly.
