City Fined me because of tenant

The city is saying that my tenant is operating a business on my property (single family rental) without a license. They have sent me a fine because I am the property owner. Has anyone experienced getting fined as a landlord because they are going after the tenant? I am going to make the tenant pay, but I am concerned that this will go on my record somehow. Wondering if I should fight it.

If your tenant is operating a business, no reason to not believe he is, you have no grounds to fight. Always try to avoid fighting city hall, they have nothing to lose.

Pay it and bill the tenant. This is simply a reality of being a landlord. We must stay on top of our tenants to insure they do not break the law.

Give your tenant notice to immediately cease and desist the business or they will be evicted. If on M2M lease you have the option to non renew. Inform the city you have notified the tenant and the business will be terminated.
