Open an LLC with a Room Rental?

Hi Everyone,

I am very new to real estate investing and need some feedback. I purchased a home recently and would like to rent out one of the rooms to get familiar with being a landlord. The end goal for me would to have rental properties in the future but for the time being I want to start small with just a room in my home. I would like to get some rental income under an LLC going to protect me from my other assets in case something goes wrong with a renter.

Would it be possible to declare rental income under an LLC even though the property is not under that LLC? and if so would it make sense to get an LLC now or open one up later when I have actual rental property?
