International Students w/out SS #s: No Credit & Background Checks
How do you screen international applicants? Are there special clauses added to the lease, such as additional deposit requirements, etc, in order to rent to international applicants? I have some very nice international students from France and the UK, who go to a good school and have applied and I would like to rent to them. However, the problem I am running into is that they and their parents do not have social security numbers. Therefore, Smart Move cannot do any credit and background checks. They have offered to give me a copy of the H1-Visa, their passport, a bank letter from their parents banks, showing their deposits in France and the UK. This is not a process I am accustomed to. I'm confident they are great applicants and can afford the apartment. I normally require first month, last month and security deposit. They have no problem with this. Should I require anything additional? Are there alternate processes for international applicants? Thank you so much!!
