Best way to protect yourself from damage property?

In your opinion, what will be the best way to protect yourself from tenants damaging your property? What is the best landlord insurance to prevent the damages from being excessive? I'm not a landlord yet, but I am going to become one very soon and need as much advice as possible.  Thank you for any tips or suggestions.

Prevention.

Vet your tenants, vet vet vet. If any red flags are thrown up throw their application in the trash. While you might pay for having to be patient in a couple months of vacancy, you will be paying a lot more in the long run if you rushed someone in or inherited a tenant and they ruin your place.
