Ok to ask tenants to pay part of new washer's cost?

The washer needs to be replaced. It's a front loader. Tenants prefer another front loader, which would be about $500. Top loaders cost about $300. Is it ok to ask tenants to pay half of the difference if they have a strong preference for a front loader?
