Ok to ask tenants to pay part of new washer's cost?
The washer needs to be replaced. It's a front loader. Tenants prefer another front loader, which would be about $500. Top loaders cost about $300. Is it ok to ask tenants to pay half of the difference if they have a strong preference for a front loader?
Thanks
Lev

I'd question the need to replace the washer, why is it not fixable at a much lower cost?
What kind of rental is this, that comes with a front load washer/dryer?
I think if you provide anything, and later it needs to be replaced, then you would be expected to replace - in kind, and not with a downgrade or cheaper model. Washer, stove, whatever. I would not replace with new, however. See what you can find on craigslist, a used appliance store, the classifieds, etc.
