Oakland Fire: Chatter about criminal prosecution of landlord.

Linky link. For those unaware, we had a tragedy in Oakland this past weekend. Fire. About two dozen people lived in the building. Dozens are dead, in what reads like something out of the developing world: very large party, fire starts, lights go out, few exits or exit signs, lots of mourning, sadness, anger, and finger-pointing.

Relevant to us...

I'm not going to post the entire article, but it has a decent summary of what it takes for a landlord to expose themselves to criminal prosecution.

Follow the fire code!

Don't just follow the code to shield from liability. Follow the code because it is the right thing to do. Everyone is better off.
