Criminals as a protected class

An updated article for landlords out there on criminals who have served their time becoming a protected class:

these are for felonies or misdemeanors other than traffic offenses!

I had a recent tenant who, unbeknownst to me, was on parole for a white collar type crime. It did not come up on a background check. He was a great tenant...until he got nailed on a minor parole violation, and off he went.

So, no, I will not rent to a felon in any circumstance. it is not up to me to give them a second chance. let their family do that. 

Oh, and Lloyd, no background checks? That is crazy talk.
