Landlord wants to terminate tenancy

My rent is due the 1st of every month. I was late due to financial issues but I did pay my rent in full on the last day of my 3 day pay or vacate. 4 hours after I paid everything in full my landlord shows up and hands me a notice staring he's terminating my tenancy. Is there anything I can say or do to maybe make him change his mind? Any suggestions would help please and thank you.
