Hi,

I have a rental property in San Antonio, TX that i bought as a REO from auction.com. It looks like there is a School tax that is being charged outside of the property taxes. Is this common in TX? Ive never heard of a "School tax" that is being collected for any of my rentals. (Isnt that not paid through the property tax)?

You must be far north so that you have Comal school district or far west to have Medina school district or north east to have Judson school district. There might be a couple of others that collect independently from Bexar county tax assessor's office. You are not paying twice, it is just that Bexar county does not collect the school part of the tax in those districts, they collect on their own.

I am sure there is some illogical, bureaucratic, money wasting reason why different agencies collect, but I dont know.
