My tenant just filed for Chapter 13, now what?
So I was getting ready to leave on vacation for two weeks (Alaska) when I get a letter from the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee. One of my tenants that has been a renter for more than 2 years recently filed.
I tried to get ahold of my attorney to discuss but he is out of town at a conference. So I dropped everything off at his office along with a copy of the lease. Unfortuanately the lease isn't up until the end of April, 2017. The tenant has always paid me but a couple of times I have had to give her a call to "remind" her that the rent is due.
There are creditor meetings that I am sure I will have to attend and will probably have to take my attorney along as well. $$$!
Does anyone in the BP community have any experience dealing with this problem? What happens to my rent? Who pays the attorney bills? I know the answer on that one! I am going to thank everyone in advance for responding. I may not be able to answer any questions as quickly as I would like due to limited internet while on this trip.

I'd be interested to hear expert, or experienced, opinions. I thought bankruptcy wipes out someones debt. If they don't owe any back rent, I would assume you don't have any issues. I can't imagine someone could live in your place rent free because they filed bankruptcy. They should still have to pay rent.
