Unsafe Pergola. if i demo, am i obligated to replace?

Property is in California - My tenants have expressed safety concerns with a free standing pergola in my rental backyard (not attached to the house). If I demo the pergola, am I obligated to replace or rebuild it for them? Or can I just demolish it without them having any recourse?
