Listing agent won't do criminal background check

I was introduced to this agent by a friend. He said he can help me list my condo up for rent. I emailed him a list of all of the terms and he said the only thing this company won't do is the criminal background check. He said I can do it myself. The whole point hiring the agent because I don't have time to do all of it. Is it standard?
