Just hiring a property manager

Hi, new landlord here :)

I move out of state for 3 years and decide to hire and property manager for my vacant property. He did a good job finding tenant, however, he wants me to sign a revised contract, asking tenant to send rent directly to me and I supposed to forward him management fee on 1st of the month (even if tenant would be late on rent, management fee due on 1st of month). Is it supposed to be him who collect rent, keep the fee, and forward the rest to me? It just seems a little weird as I need to do more work even though I hire him as property manager...
has anyone experience this?

Thanks,
