Filing a Judgement in Galveston Texas

Hey Everyone, I am a long time lurker and I have a question about filing a judgment in Galveston Co.  Recently we had a tenant not pay, so they moved out without hassle.  Which their quick departure was great till we went through the home.  They left it a wreck not to mention they broke their lease about 6 months early.  I have turned homes around before, got them on the market, no bid deal.  I have never sought to file a judgment because I don't have a lot of faith that I will ever get my money.  I feel the same way in this situation, but I am going to give it a shot.  My question is - How long do I have to file in Galveston Co.  Can I go back on people that really damaged my homes 3 years ago or is it a 1 year and done situation.  Also, if anyone in the local area has any experiences with filing in Galveston County, any info would be much appreciated.

I know about the search engine, I have been using it for the past few hours and learned a lot.

Thanks for your time
