Who rents 3/2 apartments?

Hi all, I'm hoping to get some insight into 3/2 apartments. I was just looking at a 4plex that consists of all 3/2 units. The interior photos were... eye opening. But it got me thinking, in general, who is the target renter for a 3/2 apartment? I understand 2/1 apartments and 3/2 SFH, but I'm pretty clueless about who a 3/2 apartment attracts (outside of a college area).

So, if you rent 3/2 apartments who usually applies?  Thanks for your input!

@Sarah D. there are lots of families that either don't want to or can't buy a SFH so the 3/2 apartment works well for them. Maybe new to the area before they build a house, doesn't have the down payment or credit for a house, temporary or contract job, likes no maintenance, likes to move every couple of years, ect.

lots of reasons for people to chose a 3/2 apt over a 3/2 SFR
