Sewer Lines and Richmond, VA

Thanks in advance to anyone who has some good answers and empathy on this one.

Bracing myself for a possible sewer line replacement in our building in Richmond. This is not the way I like to start the week, but I wanted to know a bit about how the municipality treats these kind of repairs? I am to assume to line runs out into some city property (ie The Street). Does the city bear any responsibility for the potential replacement in these cases?

Standard story. Old clay pipe + tree roots + who knows what else.

Anyone else who's done this, appreciate your advice and stories.

Trevor,

Not sure I can provide insight on Richmond specifically but my SFR in Fredericksburg will need a sewer line replacement and I'm responsible for everything from the street to inside the house. In that neighborhood there is a 6ft (I think) easement between the street and what is technically my property but I'm still responsible for that whole pipe. I don't believe the city bears any responsibility for any part of these repairs, but I could be wrong.
