Federal and State Fair Housing Acts

Since I am a first time Landlord and have only one single family house to rent, my understanding from reading through the Fair Housing Act, is that it does not apply to my situation. According to the Act if you have fewer than three single family houses to rent then the Law does not apply. If it does not apply then can I rent to whomever I wish, regardless of what the Act demands? I will not be renting through a real estate broker or property manager. My rental house is in the state of Florida. The Florida Fair Housing Act pretty well mirrors the Federal Fair Housing Act as far as I can determine. Assistance will be appreciated.
