Exterior Shared Stairs - what finish type?

Greetings BP members, I am looking for recommendations on material and product to use on entrance stairs from the exterior. It's an unconditioned stairway connecting two upper floor units. Interiors are already receiving new LVT and other builder grade carpet. This is a 4plex currently being renovated, here in Oregon, which is a temperate but wet climate. The stairway has a window and a photocell light but generally darker but secured. I'd like to keep costs down but have something nicer then turf or vinyl treads. It seems like there are some carpet options that resist stains. Local floor supply store was helpful in some areas but not this one. Seemed like a good topic for others to provide recommendations or forward me to a similar thread. Thanks for your considerations, Keith
