Hardest aspect of our jobs
This is more of a soliloquy rather than a forum post but it would be nice to hear how other people cope when dealing with similar situations.
I had to make five phone calls this morning to long term apartment tenants of a multifamily we just purchased. Three of the five were calls saying that their rents were more than doubling in 30 days to meet market rates. The other two calls were to say that they had 30 days left and after that they need to move.
Two of them cried. One was extremely angry. One was ambivalent because he knew the party bus was coming to an end.
Later on today I have to tell new tenants who just moved into another house that they owe $250 for breaking an oven when all they were trying to do was try to clean it because it was dirty upon their move in. Water damage is beyond normal wear and tear on an oven and someone has to pay to replace it and fact of the matter is our client had a fully functioning oven before the tenants moved in.
I love real estate but I hope everyone is well aware that not everything is going to be sunshine and rainbows.
