Companion animals and insurance

I have a young Pit bull as a companion animal in Oregon, I was wondering if anyone could help clue me in if I HAVE to have "pet" insurance in him because of his breed when renting? Our current place doesn't require it, but it is just to small for a dog. I was told by a landlord the other day I would be required to have $100,000 insurance policy to cover all my companion animals (2 indoor cats-both over 12 yrs old) and my pit that is 7 months.  Can she do this?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!
