I'm moving across country and relocating to the San Jose/South Bay Area in ur next month.  I'm interested in anyone renting properties in the area that are looking for a tenant. Preferably a single family home 3BR 2 BA...my office is in Sunnyvale im looking for properties within an hour commute.  Thanks.

Girard,

As the two veterans above have said, rental prices depend on school districts. Be prepared to pay $3k-$5k/month for a 3/2 in the South Bay. The traffic has been quite bad here as it seems like whoever wants a job has a job. As much as you're likely well compensated for your job here, the rent takes a big chunk out of your salary.

If you don't care about schools, Santa Clara, downtown or North San Jose and Milpitas have a bearable commute to Sunnyvale. It will take you about 20-30 minutes each way for your commute. If you want to check out school ratings, go to schoolandhousing.com and type in the address of the subject property. It will give you the school rating.

The housing market in the Bay Area is quite tight at the moment. Do your research in advance. Pick out the properties you like. Be the first person to show up to the open house, and you have a better shot of getting the place. Bring a copy of your credit report with you. If you don't have pay stubs yet, have a letter from your company stating your base salary, your bonus and RSU if any.  Be ready to pay rent right away although you're not moving in for another 15 or 20 days.  It's one of those situation that if you snooze, you loose. It's frustrating to be a renter in this market.

Best of luck with your search.
