Renter deported... huh!?

Got an email today from my PM stating that one of my tenants has been deported... how does this even happen? lol. Is this something that should have been caught during screening? Tenant was 2 months into their lease.. lol

The sad thing is, California landlords are not allowed to question tenants citizen status.
