Duplex House Hack
Hello Biggerpockets Community,
This is my first post as I am trying to utilize BiggerPockets more. I recently purchased my first duplex in Peoria, AZ in September and I am using it as a house hack where I rent out one side and live in the other. Currently the other unit is empty and wasn't sure how to handle the taxes regarding this, so I am looking for refences of an accountant in the Phoenix Metro who does house hack taxes.
If you have any other pieces of advice or wisdom for landlord and tenant rights it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Congrats on purchasing your first duplex and starting your house-hacking journey—this is a huge step toward building wealth! From experience, finding a knowledgeable accountant is key for handling taxes effectively, especially when splitting expenses, claiming deductions, and managing depreciation. Also, take time to understand Arizona landlord-tenant laws to stay compliant and protect your investment. Screen tenants thoroughly, have a solid lease, and maintain an emergency fund for unexpected expenses. With the right resources and preparation, you’re set up for success!
Good luck!
