New tenants are getting divorced- Can this be ground for us to end the lease?
Brand new tenants getting divorced and can’t afford rent on their own.
We had tenants move into our rental in September 2024. They just wrote us that they are getting a divorce. Neither can afford it on their own. The husband would like to stay and get a roommate.
My question for you is would this give us grounds to discontinue their lease if they need to move in another person to be able to afford it? They’ve proved to be very picky/not ideal and we’d rather move on.
In addition, we felt remorse when we signed with them thinking that we should have sold it instead of renting it another year. We have a lot of equity in it and don’t make much on it, so that’s why we want to sell.
Can we choose not to allow another roommate, force them to move out if the lease is violated if they can’t pay, and move on?
