Water Damage From Leaky Roof - HOA Responsible for Roof

Eric Sandmann
Posted

I have a property in Florida where the HOA is responsible for maintenance and repair of all parts of the building outside of my unit walls, including the roof. The roof begun leaking this week and has caused water damage to the ceiling of my unit and I notified the HOA of my issue on Monday. They said that they would send a roofer out to identify the problem. It is now Thursday and the HOA has not sent a roofer out, the problem is getting worse, and the HOA is being very unresponsive. At this point, is it worth it to get my insurance involved to help motivate the HOA to address the issue or will getting my insurance involved slow things down?
