Section 8 Timeframe

Hello All,

Looking at getting into Section 8 and was curious on the timeframe it takes HUD to place a a tenant once the property is listed on HUD. Understanding that renters get to choose what property they want to reside in, what is an average wait time that you have experienced?

Maybe it's different in different markets. In my market, HUD does not "place" a tenant. Once an individual qualifies for housing assistance, they have to find their own rental that will accept the voucher. Some states require landlords to accept Section 8, while others do not.

There's also a process with the landlord passing an inspection, signing the contract, etc.

I recommend you contact your housing office and ask them what the process involves and how long it will take.
