Bill slip for envelope for money orders or personal checks payment

Tom Server
Posted

My tenants were used to paying cash, since the property manger used to live near by and would go collect. Now I am the landlord and live 2 hours away and switching the payment to be mailed to me by money order or personal checks. Im dropping off pre stamped and addressed envelopes, which I know is much , but figured ill try to make this as easy as possible.  Does anyone use like a bill slip to add into the envelope ? something that has the month and they can write the amount they sent ?

At least in my opinion, Tom, you live two hours too far away to be self-managing. I live less than fifteen miles from all my rentals, and the majority are closer than five miles away.

But that's not what you asked, just a cautionary note. Here's an idea: you might want to give your tenants the choice to pay using check/money order or Zelle. If they opt to pay through check/money order, postage and the responsibility to make sure the checks get to you on time is all on them. You don't need to be wiping and powdering every poopy bottom every do-nothing tenant on your rent roll wags your way.
