Roof replacement due to hail storm on rental property. Can I write-off deductible?
We had a hail storm and had to replace my roof because it was all damaged. Total cost was $9k, insurance paid $5k and my deductible was $4k. I rent out 75% of my house, can I expense 75% of my $4k deductible? Does it count as a repair since the insurance claimed it had to be replaced after the hail storm? Or does it count as home improvement thus have to be depreciated?
