California Security Deposit Changes

For those landlords in CA, Governor Nuisance recently signed into law a bill limiting security deposits to a maximum of one month rent. It used to be a max of two months rent with a three month exception for furnished units. 

Some other supposedly housing-related bills that will end the housing crisis, signed into law by Governor Nuisance:

  • AB 12 by Matt Haney (D-San Francisco) – Tenancy: security deposits.
  • AB 84 by Christopher Ward (D-San Diego) – Property tax: welfare exemption: affordable housing.
