Police damaged property while entering property, damage?

Hi all,

I have a property in which the tenant was arrested in late December. I have been working with the family to allow a smooth transition for all involved. That all seems to be going smoothly. However the police forced entry into the home and apparently kicked the front door in and busted out the jam by the latch and the trim and some plaster. I imagine that I will end up being on the hook for that unless I can get it from the tenant. I was wondering if anyone else had any experiences like this. Does the police department have any liability to pay for repairs. Thanks

Any interesting police damage stories would be fun to hear as well!!
