Best washer/dryer brand for rental

Emma Powlin
Posted

I just closed on a house that I will be a live in flip for the next year or so and will eventually become a rental. Any suggestions on a washer/dryer brand? I have room for side by side, but would prefer to have a stackable option to create more space/storage in the laundry closet. I’ve heard Kenmore and Maytag are good tenant proof options as with speed queen, however, speed queen is rather expensive.  Thanks!

@Emma Powlin we have a number of GE washers and dryers. Including a pair in the laundry room in our 12 unit. In our regular duplexes the appliances are "donated"; they were left there by some prior tenant and the current tenant can take them or leave them and if they fail in some way don't call us. Sometimes we will buy used machines but it works the same way-they're yours.

We do have a couple of upscale duplexes where appliances are included. I do not have any experience with stackables.

Speed queen is a great brand that will last you 25 years, while other brands are built to last 7-8 years.

I have bought GE's and have had no problems, in my smaller units I get the college dorm style stackables "no frills" and in the larger units I get the nicer GE's. I get them with a preferred vendor, ABT and get the 5 year warranty, if they can't fix it, they replace it. I am wary about warranties with the big box stores.

We had a GE stackable that constantly had weird faults. For example, it would fill up at random times of the day. It never overfilled, but certainly would never trust one with valuable floors.
