One Applicant - 5 Different SSNs!
The fraud in the rental application market now is unreal. I am careful not to give the fraudsters too much information, because if they have half a brain they improve their application when they apply for the next house with some other property manager or landlord. We had someone this week that made it all the way to credit screening, and Equifax reported a that the SSN they have for the applicant is different that what the applicant reported to us. I called the applicant and asked her to tell me what her SSN was and she gave me an even different number. She then e-mailed me something and I searched our database for her e-mail and discovered we rejected the very same woman (same name, same current address) two months back and on that application she gave me a completely different SSN. That's 4 different SSNs submitted from one applicant within 60 days, plus the 5th SSN reported by Equifax. This woman also had two different driver's licenses on the two applications, although they both showed the same name and current address, they had different issuance dates. I rejected the first application because she was self employed and could not or would not submit the documents we require. On the second application she submitted paystubs that appeared to be real, and claimed to be an administrator/employee, although she is listed as the registered agent for the corporation on our state corporation commission website. This one is smart and is learning from her rejections and perfecting her fraud. This week this fraudster submitted a THIRD application with yet a different SSN. She apparently
doesn't realize she is submitting these applications to the same company. I wonder how many other applications she has floating around out there.
The photo below shows a paystub submitted today from a totally different person, but the stupidity is staggering. Rather than save her fake paystubs as a PDF so they looked somewhat real, she took a screenshot from the website where she paid $8.99 to create her fake paystubs, which included the website of the fake paystub creator!
Mama always said - Stupid is as stupid does!

I tried. I really tried. The SSI Fraud dept directed me to walk the date into my local SS office. I did and waited for 2 hours with a room full of peeps with numbers ahead of mine. I bailed but will try again on a day I can take my laptop and camp out for the day. I did report her to our Crime Line, so if she is accused of fraud in the future they will contact me for evidence.
