Tenant Requests To Stay Past Lease End Date

Josh Caddick
Posted

My tenant called today to ask for more time to pack up and find a new home.  The one year lease ends tomorrow (8/31/22).  If I do allow the tenant to remain in place, how should I go about collecting rent for the extra days?  I am concerned that by accepting another rent payment, the tenancy will convert to month-to-month, and I will have to provide another 60 day notice to end the month-to-month lease.  The unit is well below market rent and I want to renovate the unit after the tenant leaves.

What would you do in this situation?

@Josh Caddick

Issue an addendum extending the lease for x days for x amount and no additional notice is required
