Can Duplex have Shared Access?

My in laws own a duplex. We currently live in house A with 2 bedrooms with them. Tenants in house B just moved out, which only have 1 bedroom. Our bedroom shares a wall with house B’s bedroom. Would it be possible to have a door connecting the 2 rooms so the kids could have access to both houses?
