Hoa changing rule on short term rentals

Anyone know or has experience with associations that have decided to change their by laws or rules on rentals at the community. My questions, can they legally do this if it gets voted by the board, anyway around this? Will legal representation help me? This is a long shot but any ways to get grandfathered? I learned that they might be discussing this change so I am wondering if I should call my contact at the board and confront. Thanks I JLC
