Building an ADU on tenant-occupied parcel

Posted

We plan to build an ADU on a property currently occupied by a tenant. The property currently has 2 single family homes on it but is technically multi-unit since the two residences are on the same parcel (and therefore subject to AB1482 etc). Since it will change the utility of the backyard space for them, should we put anything in the lease about this? We may not get this built for another year or so, just hoping to avoid issues when that begins. The backyard is currently awful and they really don't use it, so I don't think there is much attachment.
