How Do Section 8 Voucher Payments Work?
Hi BP,
I understand that with Section 8 Housing, there are vouchers that tenants will have that allow the city to subsidize part of their rent. However, there are limits that correspond to the bedroom size as shown here: http://www.oakha.org/propertyo... What I don't understand is that I see section 8 listings that exceed the payment standard. For instance for 2 bedrooms, the payment standard from the city is $2335. However, I see listings that rent for $2500. How does that work? Am I able to list my unit for higher than the payment standard that is shown?
Thanks in advance

@Austin Cai you can list the property for whatever you want. HUD however will only pay up to FMR for that zipcode, including utilities. However, if you can prove comparable properties are renting for more, or you are in one of their opportunity zones, you could get higher rents.
The easy answer to your questions is, check out their website, it has a lot of helpful links and some videos. Then contact your local office and see if you can meet with one of their representatives and have them break it down for you.
