Too rent as a SFH or one unit and Airbnb

Russ Chavie
Posted

hello everyone

so I have a SFH the was a duplex at some point in its life and I was going to convert it back but rookie mistake I didn't check the zoning on it, like I should have. My question is should I convert it still, rent one unit out and airbnb the other or rent it as a SFH?

3 bedroom, 2 bath SHF 1300sqft

2 bedroom 1 bath unit, 1 bedroom 1 bath airbnb

@Russ Chavie so when you say you didn't check the zoning are you not able to legally convert it back?   is it not grandfathered?   For instance in one area I was in you could use as a two family if the metering for two units was still in existence and the structure was basically still in place even if it had been used as a SF.   In another it had to be in continuous use.   If it would be an illegal conversion you are safest with a SF unless you are living there in which case you might be able to rent part of your home by converting as an inlaw suite which could still be legal.  Areas have different laws on that.  Check with your building department rules which may be available on line.
