CPA for SD IRA owned SFR?

Bob Randolph

Posted

I became an accidental landlord after the Flipper I loaned to welched on his payments. Now i'm collecting rent and doing the landlord dance. My question is; Can i get any deductions for time, mileage, etc. when my SD IRA is the entity that owns the property? I'm also wondering if any good Fort Bend County CPAs I could talk to. ... OK, two questions.

Many Thanks!

Bob

@Bob Randolph,

You can't get deductions or any tax benefits for the property that you don't own. Your IRA owns it. And since you are considered to be a disqualified person to your IRA you have to be careful not to break the IRS rules "doing the landlord dance". You can receive rent, pay the bills (only if your IRA has "checkbook control") and hire contractors to do everything else.
