Include RE equity When balancing a portfolio?

Hi all,

I self-manage a “balanced” retirement trust portfolio for my wife and myself. The balanced portfolio is nothing too sexy, it just requires periodic rebalancing to keep investments in pre-planned proportions. I modeled it after Ray Dalio’s All-Weather Portfolio. For illustrations sake, let’s say it’s 30% STOCK index funds/20% TIPS/30% Real Estate/10% Commodities/10% Metals. We’re passed due for a rebalance and I haven’t had to adjust real estate proportion before. My question is, do I include my “cash” as my investment value or my equity? Anyone else keeping a balanced retirement portfolio? I think I know, but wanted to get another opinion. Thanks!!
