Bringing Gifts from Abroad

Dear Bigger Pockets Members,

My relative, who lives in Turkey and is very old is considering giving me a gift of several million dollars before she passes away. She is not a US citizen. If I were to accept this money, would I be liable to taxes in the United States? I am trying to get clarity on this issue as it is a lot of money and I want to make the correct decision on how to best go about accepting this money.

Thank you all for your responses,

  Eser
