@DeEtte Harrington The best way to find a good contractor is to be serious about investing. Most contractors won't walk through a house with you to help you decide if you should buy it, at least until they have done some work for you. There's no shortage of work right now in Austin, so the good contractors don't want to give bids that there's only a small chance of them winning. Best thing you can do is get a reasonable amount of knowledge about construction costs so you can ballpark it, and narrow down your properties. Then, don't bother asking a contractor out there until you AT LEAST have it under contract w/ option. Hopefully this will help you find someone willing to take the time to help. Good luck!
