IRS Scam Call

CAVEAT EMPTOR:

Got a call today which skillfully deploys Social Engineering.  Did not recognize the area-code so I didn't answer the call and let it go to Voicemail.  The message was:

  • The IRS is filing a law suit against you.  Call us to help ....

First,  The IRS will not use Email or Voicemail to communicate with you;  it is always by USPS snailmail.

If you get overly anxious and try to work with this people, you risk your deposits at the bank and/or phony charges on your credit card(s)

The best choice is to screen your call and ignore any you do not understand.

I have found that using just the phone number as the google search area code(631) 201 8515 will get you to several reverse lookup services or sites which others have reported as scams.

(memo to staff: need a forum for Scams)

@Jeff B.

Thanks for the suggestion. This kind of forum category would give members a heads up on potential scams or fraud. I've forwarded this to our team that will review this.
