Student loans and Debt-to-income ratio

Hello-

I am currently working in the health care industry and I want to start investing in real estate, particularly in multi-family homes and rehabbing properties. However, I have a large amount of student loan debt due to my profession. I am extremely eager to start investing in real estate, I've been reading real estate investing books and attending seminars, but I still have a lot to learn. So, I was wondering does your student loan debt effect your debt-to-income ratio and does student loan debt effect your ability to get loans from hard money lenders, crowd funding, banks etc.

Also, I was wondering if it is a good idea to start to investing in real estate now or should I just focus on decreasing my student loan debt?
